Artist: Goldenseed
Album:The War Is In My Mind
Label: SG Records
Genre: Instrumental Extreme Progressive

This is a very proggy uber self-indulgent instrumental opus from more or less one person with some guest vocals on the closing track. It proclaims the use of a variety of styles including fusion, progressive, metal and more and that is spot on.
As a result it is a little too confused and inconsistent for me. Taking an extreme form of progressive music and then making it almost wholly instrumental was always going to be a risk and whilst passages are undeniably brilliant there are others that are just a jumbling of ideas.
I prefer my progressions to be a little more logical even if unexpected but at times this is just random. Some of the concepts are so huge I wonder if they have been allowed to take over at the expense of the music.
Some people will love this and I have no doubt that for its type it is a leader. but too many will find this a bit too smart for its own good and a real turn off.
A review is a little moot - if you are into this sort of affair then grab it as it is polished, well produced and superbly executed. And if you aren’t steer clear as it isn’t the sort of thing you can gently get into.
